Map It out

The 42 acre Ojibway Island, purchased by Hamilton Davis in 1906, was near the main channel used by steamships travelling from Collingwood and Parry Sound north to Manitoulin Island. Hotel guests and supplies from the south needed to arrive by steamer as there were no railways or roads in the area. The island was near the fishing village of Pointe au Baril, and the Shawanaga First Nation, many of whom helped with the construction of the hotel and became fishing guides for the guests. The island was ideal for fishing, rowing and exploring in the protected waters.

These three maps show the location of the Ojibway Hotel in the Great Lakes, Georgian Bay and Pointe au Baril, Ontario.
