Two members of The Group of Seven came to Pointe au Baril in the 1930’s. Lawren Harris and his family stayed in Maplewood at the Ojibway Hotel in 1930. The following year, J.E.H. MacDonald stayed across the channel from the hotel on Orchard Island.
